I’ve developed a number of plugins for WordPress, either to address an issue I’ve encountered or provide a function I haven’t found in an existing plugin.

My first, the Tag Dropdown Widget, solved the problem of unwieldy tag clouds by creating a dropdown menu for my post tags.

My second plugin, the Simple Facebook® Share Button, painlessly integrates Facebook’s Share button while providing all of the options currently supported by the Facebook API.

My third, the Tag List Widget, presents tags in a list with various options for deliminating the tag list.

More information about each plugin can be found on its respective page.

Donations are gladly accepted via PayPal and are used solely to support plugin development.

Over the last few months, I have received a number of feature requests concerning each of the plugins I've developed. I have noted each request and responded to each as promptly as possible, but I feel I must provide some explanation for the delays in implementing these requests.

As an organizer of WordCamp Boston (held January 23, 2010), I found myself with little time for plugin development. Following that event, I accepted a position with C. Murray Consulting that affords me the opportunity to develop WordPress-powered sites on a full-time basis. Together, both circumstances have prevented me from devoting the necessary time to updating my plugins.

Do know that once my schedule settles down, I will return my focus to updating the plugins in response to user feedback. Please don't hesitate to continue making suggestions.

    #Facebook Share Button
Is it possible to show the number of shares even if it's still zero?

    Thx in advance!

    Alex,

The site in question is using an application called ViralShare that interacts with Facebook in a different way than does my plugin. Facebook provides two methods for sharing items to its site, one using a pre-built library, the other requiring a completely custom solution for each implementation. My plugin uses the former whereas ViralShare uses the latter.

Alex,Unfortunately, Facebook's Share system doesn't show the count if it's zero and provides no option for forcing a zero to display. This is a much-requested feature but isn't currently supported by Facebook. Erick

FB share button. THANKS! It's working so far. Just installed it. There are plenty of features. Might use it in another blog, but I'll wait and use this one as a test. Check out my use of your plugin at harveytheturtle.com. I have the latest version of WP (2.9.2), so now you can say it works for that version.

You may have to manually add the FB code (from the FB website) to the php header template. Maybe Erick has a better solution though.

  • Erick said:

To do so, you must edit your template. If you are comfortable doing so, you can add the function SFBSB_direct() to your template. More information on this function is available in the included plugin help available through your site's WP Admin.

Is there any way to edit the actual button? It's a little too large to fit properly into the footer of my posts. Editing the images in the "buttons" folder does nothing.

  • Erick said:

    Paul,

The images bundled with the plugin are provided for reference only. Facebook dynamically displays the buttons each time a page is loaded, so it isn't possible to modify the images.
